There's No Mistakes, Just Happy Accidents...in scrapbooking

Hello Crafty Friends,

Are you the type that makes a 'mistake' and works the 'mistake' into your project? Or do you start your project over?
I most times will work it in. There are occasions, like in card making where I will start over by flipping my piece over and stamping again.

If you have been following me along, for any amount of time, you know that I like to reach for my scraps for challenges.
For Saturdays challenge in my DanYell Scraps and Friends Facebook Group, I challenged my group to use small scraps.
For my inspiration piece, I took a bunch of shades of green Zip Strips (those .25 x12 strips at the top of the CTMH papers) and cut them in random lengths of 5, 4.75, 4.5, 3.5, 3.75 etc and staggered them on my page.
Next, I added some photo mattes, pictures, and some stamping.
i know what you're saying, "Yadda, Yadda, Yadda Danielle where is this 'mistake' you made"? I know,, i O know i am getting there....well see those fun arrows on my page.... ONE was supposed to be stamped under the word look.... I dropped the stamp [Oh-No] right one my page and picture, and thus, the flowing arrows became a thing on this page! 🤪

I hope you enjoyed my checking out my page, my story how it came to be and gained some inspiration to bash your stash!
Thank you for stopping by!
Danielle!

How To Face Your Paper Crafting Fears!

I have 3 rules ideas for you to conquer your paper crafting fears...they help me when I when I am feeling like maybe this isn't my thing. So, this of course, is my JOB, and I love it. I love starting my day being creative. I love creating pages, adding my families pictures to them and capturing our family story along the way.

Then, there are those days when doubt, fear, and anxiety, pop in my head. It usually comes when I have scoured Pintrest or YouTube looking for inspiration, only to be met with the daunting feeling that perhaps I am in the wrong line of work. I usually have to take a step back and remember, this couldn't be further from the truth! Trust me.... I want to share three ideas I keep tucked in my mind for days like these....
  1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... if it is beautiful to you, then it is beautiful. No ands, no ifs, no buts. Point. Blank. Period. Which leads me to number two.
  1. Stop comparing your work to everyone else work. You are you, and your work is just as valid as the next persons. The more you create, the more your crafty niche will blossom! The more you let yourself be free of doubt and NEGATIVE self criticism, the more your work will make your heart sing!
  1. There is no wrong way to scrapbook or make cards. When your card or page functions as it was intended, but you didn't take the path that the YouTube creator told you to, THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT IS WRONG.... see idea #1 and #2 on why!
So this brings me to my artwork for todays post. It did not turn out how I thought it should, the boxes were supposed to be even. I measured wrong and my tic tac toe board was lost.... or was it? I posted it anyway, because - there is NO wrong way to scrapbook, idea #3

Sundays CHALLENGE for my crafty group was TO CREATE A CARD OR PAGE (ANY SIZE) USING A TIC TAC TOE BOARD AND CREATE AROUND, ON OR IN IT!
Super easy to make...

Try Something New!

Hello and Welcome Crafty Friend!

Saturday, my group was faced with a fun challenge, to step outside of their comfort zone!
I told them to try something new, and to Pick one or more of the following:

*Try a new technique. Rock-n-Roll stamping.

*Try ink smooshing <-- it's a word (kind of) LOL

*Use up that paper that you have been hoarding for 5 years or more.

*Try a color combo that you love, but you're scared to tackle.

Here was my finished card after tackling rock n roll stamping, ink smooshing, and using up some paper I had been hoarding.

I gave my group pictorials for both techniques so they could practice ink smooshing and rock n roll stamping.
I added a boarder of stamped hearts in peacock ink.
The vellum paper adds a soften look to that busy (my favorite) floral pattern paper.
Both papers were cut using the stirched hexagon thin cuts.

Check how cute the rock n roll stamping turned out on the heart!
Don't miss that ink smooshingnon the bears. I showed my grouo 2 different ways of ink smooshing!
My bears and heart come from the stamp set Teddy Bear Hugs

I finished my bears and heart if with a some shimmer! Which picked up really well in these pictures! 🌟
I can't wait to see what they come up with!
I hope I have inspired you to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new!

Have fun and happy  crafting!

The Best Item Found In my Stash!

Hey Crafty Peeps,

Every Monday night, my crafty group and I get together over at DanYellScraps & Friends Facebook group, to play a fun game. The game we play is called "the Wheel of Mystery". A very bright and funny lady on Facebook originated this idea and whom I adapted the it from. She hosts a live game show on Friday nights called Craft Roulette. The roulette wheel filled with numbers, that coincide with 4 different sets of parameters. I loved this so much I brought this concept to my group... and boy are we having a blast with it.

This week my guest crafter and fellow group member was Belinda! We spun the wheel (app on my phone) 4 times, one for each of our parameters:
Card: Window
Colors: Peacock, Ballerina, and Pomegranate
Embellishment: Wooden Shape
Chance: Pumpkin

This was going great until a pumpkin was tossed in there, especially with the colors that popped up. I leave the parameters up for interpretation, this truly allows the creativity to pour through. So perhaps instead of a traditional window card, the person may use a stamp or die cut of  a Window. Perhaps they make a black and white card and use the colors as splash instead of a the focal point. Or maybe they use the word pumpkin instead of an actual image.

Here is the card that I made, and bonus, I found a package of adhesive springs. CTMH use to sells these WAY BACK when....and it was the Best Item Found In my Stash! To use this and make it super fun for the recipient, twist the spring (gently) tuck it in the envelope.  When it pulled out the spring releases sending the Sentiment to move back and forth! How fun!

Check out the cute wooden button, I adhere that with some Tombow Mono Liquid Glue over top of my twine knot. I love the frayed ends of the twine. I added some diamond stickles to the wooden button, because who does not love sparkle!!!!

I know your saying, um where is the pumpkin, whelp it is tone on tone stamping, and added to the back of the card! It was the best I could think of for on the Fly Crafting!

I am excited to see what my group members make with these fun parameters!

I hope I have encouraged you to get crafty!

Creatively use scraps!

Hello Crafty Friends,

Time to get creative with our scraps.
Fridays's challenge in my private Facebook group DanYellScraps & Friends, is a two part!

✂️ I am challenging them to use their thin cuts or cricut cuts creatively using only their scraps. The entire plan is to create 31 pieces if art. This could be pages, cards, 3D projects or a combo for the month of January.
All that being said, I never pressue my crafty friends to do it all. I encourage them to get crafty as often as they can. Bookmark each project that speaks to them and complete them as their crafty schedule allows. ;)

⬇️ if you're looking for a no pressure place to get crafty with ideas and friends come join my group! I am a CTMH Maker (formally known as consultants),  this group is reserved for those that are not CTMH makers and live in the U.S.

"The Mystery Wheel" told me to!

Hello Crafty friends,

So typically on Monday nights in my private Facebook DanYellScraps & Friends, we spin a wheel (app on my phone) and it tells one guest and I what we will create. Due to some scheduling conflicts, it was held live on Tuesday night!

So we spun the wheels of mystery and it said, make a gap card, using Raspberry,  peacock, and Lagoon colors, with some Embellishing thread and a heart or hearts on the card some where.

Well we got to it right away, and here is my creation!

What's a gap card? Its where a card that a piece missing. You can filling the black with acetate or a thin cut, if you really got the time, you create some fun gap cards with partial di cutting.

If your looking for a CTMH maker, come join my fun interactive group on Facebook!

Hope I was able to inspire you to get crafty.

You can snag the same supplies I used from Close To My Heart! I will list them below!

Distress Oxide ink Blending

It's Hump Day!
For today's challenge create a card or a page (any size) that uses:
1 photo/sentiment
2 embellishments (die cuts, stickers, bling etc.)
3 colors

For my samples - I have used one sentiment "sending love"
2 embellishments- sequins/twine/ diamond stickles
3 colors: black, candy apple, picked Raspberry
I achieved my custom back ground by blending with Picked Raspberry distress oxide ink and candied apple distress oxide ink. I added a few sprinkles of water, and removed and excess with a towel.

I hope I have inspired you to be crafty!
If you'd like to snag any of the supplies used in today's tutorial,  you can find them on my website here

The Wheel of Mystery!

Scrolling Facebook back in October,  I came upon a crafty game night. It was called craft roulette, Mary Gunn Funn. For several Friday nights in a row I watch as she and her guests made cards per whatever parameters came from spinning the wheel.

So I thought why not take that concept and have some fun with my crafting group! We started Monday January 4th.
My first guest was a new crafty buddy I met about a year ago from across the pond, Pauline. She's witty,  sweet, and has lots of talent.

We spun the wheel and here us what we got:
Landscape card
Colors: Clover, mint, Lagoon, and Bluebird.
Chance: seashell
Embellishments: Twine.

I sort of freaked out because I have no CTMH seashells. I did manage to find an old rubber stamp from a wonderful company in WI, that had the perfect size seashell for my back ground stamping.
I threw in some black cardstock to make a nice contrasting color, because my combo seemed so naked against the white.
I added some sequins from the craft loose sequins bag to help add some more Bluebird into the card.
This is what I came up with!
Other than my sentiment being a little skewed,  I love it.

I stamped thank you from the Jan SOTM Every Thank You stamp set.

I hope this inspired you to get crafty.
If you're in my Facebook group, I will catch you next Monday,  for a new spin at the Wheel!

  • a pair of scissors and let's go.
  • a base page or card base
